We Believe in Giving Back – Every Day

News

In the midst of the holiday season, people around the nation stop to think about how they can help others. Whether it is helping prepare holiday meals at a homeless shelter or donating gifts to a children’s charity, giving back is in the front of people’s minds.

But when the holiday hustle and bustle conclude and New Year’s resolutions start to wane, service can move to the back of the to-do list. For Steamboat Group, OSC, and SUI team members, the desire to help our communities continues year-round through the Bettering the Community Service Initiative.

Bettering the Community Initiative

In an effort to encourage a service mindset beyond the workplace, full-time, eligible employees at Steamboat Group, OSC, and SUI can use 10 hours of community service time per year to volunteer at 501(c)(3) nonprofits around the nation.

“Giving back is a core value at our companies,” said Angel Cruz, CEO of Steamboat Group. “Giving back by giving our time is exceptionally rewarding. I’m grateful that as a company, we can provide this paid time off to our team so they can serve nonprofits close to their hearts any time throughout the year.”

An Organizational Goal

Our team members have a deep desire to help others. Company leadership encourages team members to take advantage of the time off to give back. In fact, it is discussed and encouraged from the very beginning when a new employee begins onboarding.

“Many of our employees feel strongly about helping others, and we want to give them opportunities outside of work to make a difference in a direct and meaningful way,” said Sonya O’Malley, SVP of Human Resources. “This allows employees and our company to invest in the future of the communities where we live and work.”

From Texas to New York and coast to coast, communities across the United States benefit from the Bettering the Community Initiative.

Types of Service

Employees across the three divisions have already served in many ways, including:

  • Helping with fundraisers
  • Sorting holiday turkeys
  • Processing thousands of pounds of food to give to the hungry
  • And more!

Team members get to choose a nonprofit organization and mission they truly believe in. This is what makes these community service projects even more special.
